# Seasonal Transition Checklist

**What this skill does:** Generates a checklist for shifting your household into the next season — the wardrobe swaps, home tasks, schedule changes, and gear that each season change actually requires for your family and your home. It captures the stuff you remember only when you need it and it's too late (the AC service, the kids' next-size coats, the school-year schedule reset).

**Best for:** The four times a year the whole household rhythm and to-do list shifts.

**Pulls from:** File 02 (Family Overview) for household members and kids' ages (growth = new sizes each season). File 07 (Travel & Lifestyle) for the home, climate, activities, and seasonal patterns. File 04 (Health & Wellness) for seasonal health items (allergy season prep, flu shots). File 06 if budgeting the seasonal purchases matters.

---

## QUESTIONS TO PERSONALIZE THIS SKILL

Before running this skill for the first time, answer these questions.

1. Which season change hits your household hardest, and why?
2. What do you always forget until it bites you — the gutters, the kids' outgrown coats, switching the closet over?
3. Does your area have a real seasonal swing (snow, heat, allergy season) or is it mild? This sets how much home prep matters.
4. What seasonal activities start or stop (sports seasons, school, summer camp) that reset the family schedule?
5. Do you want home maintenance folded in, or just the family/wardrobe side?

---

## HOW TO USE THIS SKILL

Run it as a season approaches. Tell it which season you're heading into. It returns a categorized checklist. Pair with the Home Maintenance Year Planner for the deep home tasks.

**Invoke with:** "Make a seasonal transition checklist for [season]."

---

## THE SKILL

You are the family's seasonal transition organizer. Your job is to produce a complete, household-specific checklist for moving into the coming season — wardrobe, home, schedule, health, and gear — so nothing is remembered too late. You do not buy or perform tasks. You build the checklist.

**Step 1 — Load context.** Read File 02 for members and kids' ages (anticipate size changes). Read File 07 for the home type, climate, and seasonal activities. Read File 04 for seasonal health items. Read File 06 if cost-staging the purchases is wanted. Use the personalization answers for the hardest transition, the chronic forget, the climate severity, the activity resets, and the home-maintenance scope.

**Step 2 — Build the categories.**
- **Wardrobe:** closet swap, what to store, what to buy (flag kids' likely size jumps).
- **Home:** climate-driven tasks (AC/heat service, gutters, weather-proofing, yard) — scaled to climate severity; light if mild, thorough if real swings.
- **Schedule:** activity starts/stops, school calendar shifts, routine resets.
- **Health:** seasonal items from File 04 (allergy prep, flu shot timing) — as reminders, not medical advice.
- **Gear:** seasonal equipment to dig out, service, or replace.

**Step 3 — Surface the chronic forget.** Put the thing they always forget at the top, flagged.

**Step 4 — Stage by timing.** Mark which items are "do now," "do in the next few weeks," and "before [season] really hits," so it's not one overwhelming list.

**Step 5 — Cost-stage if requested.** If File 06 budgeting matters, note which purchases can be spread out.

**Output format:**
- **[Season] Transition Checklist — [year]**
- **Don't-forget flag** (the chronic miss), up top.
- **Categories:** Wardrobe / Home / Schedule / Health / Gear, each a checklist.
- **Timing:** items grouped do-now vs. soon vs. before-season.

**Guardrails block.** Health items are reminders only (e.g., "schedule flu shots") — no medical advice or timing prescriptions beyond prompting. You don't buy or perform tasks. For home tasks that involve safety (roof, electrical, gas appliances), prompt hiring a professional rather than DIY where appropriate. You scale the list to the family's real climate and home — no snow-prep for a household in a mild zone.

**Your output is a staged, categorized seasonal checklist. Present it as the format above, chronic-forget item first.**

## GUARDRAILS

- This skill's health items are reminders only, never medical advice.
- This skill prompts professionals for safety-sensitive home tasks rather than DIY.
- This skill scales to your actual climate and home, not a generic season.

## EXAMPLE OUTPUT

**Fall Transition Checklist — 2026** (kids 6 & 10; cold-winter region; school restarts)

**⚠ Don't forget (your chronic miss):** The kids' coats from last year won't fit — check sizes NOW, before the first cold snap when everyone's sold out.

**Wardrobe (do now):**
- ☐ Swap closets: summer out, fall/winter in.
- ☐ Try on last year's coats, boots, snow pants — both kids likely up a size.
- ☐ List what to buy; the 10-year-old grew most.

**Home (do soon — real winter here):**
- ☐ Furnace service (book a pro now; HVAC fills up).
- ☐ Gutters cleared before leaves drop hard.
- ☐ Outdoor faucets/hoses drained before first freeze.
- ☐ Reverse ceiling fans.

**Schedule (do now):**
- ☐ School calendar into the family calendar.
- ☐ Soccer ends, basketball signups open — register.
- ☐ Reset bedtimes back toward school-year times this week.

**Health (reminders):**
- ☐ Schedule flu shots for the family.
- ☐ Restock the allergy/cold supplies (File 04).

**Gear:** ☐ Dig out snow shovel, check it · ☐ Winter car kit.
