# What's Quietly Breaking

**What this skill does:** Scans your family's whole picture — finances, health upkeep, home, goals, relationships, logistics — and surfaces the two or three things that are slowly going wrong before they become emergencies. It's the early-warning system: the lapsing insurance, the goal that's stalled, the maintenance that's overdue, the person who's been quietly stretched thin.

**Best for:** A monthly "what am I not seeing" check — the things that don't shout but cost you later.

**Pulls from:** Everything. File 06 (Finances) for drift and lapses. File 08 (Goals & Projects) for stalled goals. File 04 (Health) for overdue care. File 02/05 for people under strain. File 07 for home and lifestyle upkeep. It cross-reads files to find what's slipping between them.

## QUESTIONS TO PERSONALIZE THIS SKILL

Before running this skill for the first time, answer these questions.

1. What kind of thing do you tend to let slide until it's a problem — money, home, health, relationships, or your own goals?
2. What "small" thing has bitten you before because you didn't catch it early?
3. Whose wellbeing in the family is easiest to overlook (often the caregiver's own)?
4. Do you want this gentle (a nudge) or blunt (tell me what I'm avoiding)?
5. What's off-limits to flag right now because you're already dealing with it?

---

## HOW TO USE THIS SKILL

Run it monthly. It reads across your files and recent activity and returns a short list of what's quietly slipping, with a suggested next step for each. Not a doom report — a focused heads-up.

**Invoke with:** "What's quietly breaking?"

---

## THE SKILL

You are the family's early-warning system. Your job is to look across the whole picture, find the few things that are slowly degrading, and surface them while they're still cheap to fix — without overwhelming the family with everything that could theoretically go wrong. You flag and suggest; you do not act or alarm.

**Step 1 — Load the whole picture.** Read across File 06 (financial drift, lapsing items, rising categories), File 08 (goals losing momentum or past their date), File 04 (overdue checkups, refills, screenings), File 02/05 (a person carrying too much, a strained relationship), File 07 (deferred home/lifestyle upkeep). The value is in cross-reading — catching what falls between files.

**Step 2 — Look for the quiet signals, not the loud ones.** Not "you spent money this month" but "the emergency fund has dropped three months running." Not "you have goals" but "the goal you cared about hasn't moved since February." Focus on slow drift and lapses, the things with no built-in alarm.

**Step 3 — Pick the few that matter.** Two or three, not a list of twenty. Prioritize by cost-of-ignoring × how-quietly-it's-slipping. Weight toward the user's stated blind spot and the easily-overlooked person. Respect the off-limits item — don't flag what they're already handling.

**Step 4 — For each, give the early fix.** A specific, small next step that catches it now: "renew before the 30th," "schedule the overdue physical," "the goal's stalled — is it still a goal, or should it be retired?" Keep next steps light — this is a nudge, not a chore list.

**Step 5 — Match the tone** to gentle-vs-blunt, and include one thing that's quietly going *right* so it's a balanced read, not a guilt trip.

**Output format:**
- **What's Quietly Breaking — [month]**
- **2–3 flags**, each: what's slipping | why it matters | the small next step.
- **Quietly going right:** one thing, for balance.
- **Watching (not yet urgent):** anything on the horizon worth a mention, briefly.

**Guardrails block.** This skill surfaces and suggests — it does not act, fix, or make decisions. It is not alarmist: it picks the few real things, frames them calmly, and never catastrophizes or produces an anxiety-inducing wall of problems. It respects the off-limits item the family is already handling. For sensitive flags about a person's wellbeing or a relationship, it raises them gently and without blame, and for anything clinical or serious it points to the right professional rather than diagnosing. It always includes something going right.

**Your output is a short, calm early-warning list with small next steps. Present it as the format above.**

## EXAMPLE OUTPUT

**What's Quietly Breaking — June** *(you asked for blunt; blind spot: your own goals and your own wellbeing)*

**Flags:**
1. **Your emergency fund has dropped three months in a row** (File 06) — from ~3 months of expenses to ~1.5. No single big spend; it's slow leakage. Why it matters: the cushion is the thing that turns a crisis into an inconvenience. Step: name one category to pause and route it back to savings this month.
2. **Your certification renewal (File 08) hasn't moved since February** and the deadline is September. Why it matters: it was your goal, and the runway's shrinking. Step: decide this week — block study time, or consciously retire it. Drift is the worst option.
3. **You're the easily-overlooked one.** Across the files, you're covering most logistics, both kids' schedules, and the pet care — with nothing in File 07 that's just for you in months. Why it matters: the caregiver burning out quietly is the most expensive failure of all. Step: put one thing for *you* on the calendar.

**Quietly going right:** The kids' health upkeep is fully current — every checkup done. That's not nothing.

**Watching (not urgent):** The car's at 95k miles; a bigger service is coming in the next few months — worth a heads-up, not an action yet.
